Allied Scholars for Animal Protection

Allied Scholars for Animal Protection (ASAP) is a vegan club at Texas State that promotes animal rights and plant-based eating. Through ASAP, Texas State vegans and vegetarians organize campaigns to abolish animal cruelty and improve vegan options at Texas State.

Asher Ixba

Organizer/Psychology major

Asher Ixba is a Psychology student and member of the Honors College at Texas State University. They are the treasurer of Allied Scholars for Animal Protection @ TXST, a national animal rights organization with a vision for the complete abolition of speciesism and cruelty to human and nonhuman animals. Asher has been involved in the activism space since beginning a club in high school, and they have an immense passion for achieving real change in communicative and intentional ways.

Jayce Jackson

Organizer/Journalism major

Jayce Jackson is a Texas State junior majoring in journalism and minoring in environmental studies. He is the vice president of Allied Scholars for Animal Protection @ TXST, a national animal rights organization with a vision for the complete abolition of speciesism and cruelty to human and nonhuman animals. Jayce is an activist for many issues with their main topics of interests being animal rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and women’s rights. 

Ana Castillo

Organizer/Advertising major

Ana is an advertising major at Texas State and the president of the university’s chapter of Allied Scholars for Animal Protection. Originally from Houston, she is deeply passionate about both animal rights and human rights, viewing them through an intersectional lens. Her mission is to make Texas State a more vegan-friendly campus by building a welcoming community for veg-curious individuals and animal lovers alike. Through her and her other officers’ leadership, she hopes to empower students to become confident advocates for animal rights and sustainability, fostering a community that is inclusive and action-driven.

Emma Pelfrey

Organizer/Wildlife Biology major

Emma Pelfrey is a Wildlife Biology student at the College of Science and Engineering of Texas State University. She is the reporter for the Texas State University chapter of Allied Scholars for Animal Protection. ASAP is a national organization with a mission to empower students in advocating against animal exploitation. Emma comes from a rural background and has volunteered with animals who were victims of animal agriculture. She wants to see a world where animals are seen as conscious individuals rather than products for consumption.
