Night of Ideas: Texas State

Presented by the Texas Center for Public History, focusing on “Technology, Democracy, and the Planet,” this one-night event will bring people together locally and from all over the world, with filmmakers, musicians, DJs, journalists, photographers, human rights advocates, historians, and more coming in from New York, Paris, London, Madrid, and beyond to participate in a Night of Ideas with the Central Texas community.

What is the Night of Ideas?

Coordinated by the Embassy of France, and taking place from 27 March through 6 April, Night of Ideas returns this year with nocturnal arts and culture marathons in cities across the US.

Events will feature late-night discussions addressing major global issues, plus live music, screenings, performances, and more, all centered this year’s theme, “common ground.” Exploring the expression’s literal and metaphorical interpretations, Night of Ideas will prompt participants to consider how we can commit to and protect what we have in common. How can we foster authentic interpersonal connection in an increasingly digital world? In a polarized political landscape, where are our opportunities for dialogue? As extreme weather threatens our planet, how can we preserve the land beneath our feet?

Have a half-baked, out-of-pocket, or practical idea?

In addition to our invited guests, we want students, leaders, community organizers, artists, performers, authors, faculty, staff, and community members from the Austin-San Antonio area to engage the public in late-night discussions addressing local and global issues.

Are you interested in presenting a 10-minute dialogue about something you think is important in the world? Have a film or art to share? Maybe you want to put on a workshop for a small group of interested folks? Maybe you just want to volunteer? Deadline for consideration: 1 March.
